The school year will be coming to an end soon, and I will be awarding practice trophies to reward students for consistent practice. A simple chart with stickers earned weekly can be an easy way to motivate students to keep up with their practicing and give them a long-term goal. I start the chart about 8 weeks prior to the last lesson of the semester. Students who are prepared for their lessons receive a sticker by their name and they can miss one sticker and still earn the trophy. If a student misses more than one sticker, he can always make it up, and rather than making up the time, I request to see an improvement in an area where the student may be resistant, such as in writing the counts in the music, or counting aloud. This is very useful and effective for me and is an easy way to convince students to focus in areas where they may normally resist focusing. Pictured is a trophy I used a few years ago, received by a satisfied student!
